Dear Friends,

I love you all. Thank you for visiting my blog and I promise once I can get to a computer again I will come see all of you. I am currently stuck in the hospital, wishing I weren’t. Don’t worry about me, while it’s true I am not well (have not been for years), I am in no danger of dying and will eventually be out of here and back home with the person I love most and all my friends, both IRL and in interwebz land. I knew this day might come, which is why I made sure Amber (my dearest friend, lover, and equal partner in life) was set up to post in situations like this.

I have lots of surprises for you in May, including some exciting new short fiction. I’m working on a new story called Trickcraft I think everyone will love. Threy refuse to let me have my tablet PC (they say I need more rest) but I have my notebook I’m scribbling in. Some punk bitch nurse tried taking that away (wants me to nap like a child, f*ck that!) but I got Amber to smuggle me in a new one. I promise I will never neglect my readers, ever, so don’t leave me!

Slainte,
K

On the National Day of Silence hundreds of thousands of students nationwide take a vow of silence to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in their schools.

Learn more at http://www.dayofsilence.org/

Not all LGBT insults are intentional. You could be hurting someone without meaning to. Do you think before you speak?

I don’t care how straight (or male) you are, there’s no denying lesbians are often hilariously funny people. Do I even need to mention the likes of Ellen DeGeneres or Wanda Sykes to prove the point?

It’s no secret this poor little queer girl (aka moi) is always ready for a good laugh at herself, her dearest sweetheart, or other people of similar sexual orientation.

That’s why I hit the roof when I met editor Candy Parker, who announced she and her staff were bringing GAY e-magazine out of hiatus in April of 2010.

The fun didn’t end there, though. Candy gave me an advanced copy of the April edition and invited me to contribute to future issues! Word around the  campfire (mmm s’mores…) is that readers might be seeing a K O’B byline in the June issue.

And now for a dirty little secret: a little birdie told me that the April issue scheduled for release tomorrow is actually hitting  the website at 8:30 PM EST TONIGHT!

So go ahead, head on over to http://www.gay-e-magazine.com/ a few hours early for your very own (free) copy.

Kissing girls not required. (but I do recommend it).

Well, it’s my blog. I’ll advertise if I darn well feel like it. *stomps foot*

Hey, when I see good I can’t help but talk about it. So when KW over @ ToyLit nailed this sweet little piece of news verse, I just had to give it honorable mention:

Read and enjoy :)

…Mississippi High School Principle:

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
Away from all those wretched queers
Let them not exploit my fears
I’ll hold my Bible in my hand
Make the heathens understand.
So send me guidance from above
Help me condemn same-sex love
Yes I’m your faithful servant, Lord
In your name I’ll wield a sword
I’ll fight demons who speak untrue
That wicked ACLU
First the slave race, and now the gays
Lord Condemn these evil ways
To you this promise I will make:
I’ll cancel prom, for goodness’ sake

…Mississippi High School Student:

Now I lay me down to sleep
Lord, for your children I do weep
Don’t hate them ’cause they’ve gone astray
They’re just scared because I’m gay
So treat them with a gentle hand
Could you help them understand
I can’t help I was born this way
Let them see that it’s OK
Don’t blame them Lord, it’s not their fault
They can’t help but launch assault
They’re victims of a brainwashed mind
They’re programmed to be unkind
Give them some time, they’ll come around
See the light, tolerance bound
Lord, I have faith in them, it’s true
I’ll forgive them. Please, can you?

“It was a terrible day. I can only console myself with the fact that if it hadn’t happened I wouldn’t have written a book. As a result I was asked to write my autobiography.” — Dick Francis, in regards to the horse racing accident that ended his career as a jockey and spawned his career as a writer.
***
Shortly after moving to the US, I picked up a few Reader’s Digest condensed books at a garage sale. One volume included Francis’ Straight which I immediately fell in love with – so much that I begged Mother to drive me to the local library, where I checked out as many Dick Francis titles as I could carry.

Francis took something he knew inside out – horses and horse racing – and mixed in mystery and suspense to create one of a kind stories that were exciting and memorable.

Francis never changed the world. He was a novelist, an entertainer. Characters like Derek Franklin and Kit Fielding did not inspire political change or end war and suffering. They were racing jockeys who found themselves suddenly dropped into a murder mystery.

No, Dick Francis will never be credited as the man who’s writing evolved mankind and reinvented life as we know it.

But so what?

He will be remembered as a great entertainer, someone who could spin an original story that had it’s readers on the edge of their seats page after page. He will be immortalized as the man who fell off a horse, sat in front of a typewriter, and brought us a few dozen murder mysteries. That, to me, is something just as commendable.

He was one of my heroes, and he will be missed.
